 STAYFREE® Girls in the Directors Chair continues to empower and guide creative females in 2007! This year, the program expanded to include two all-girl crews, an East coast and a West coast team. These ladies expressed their creativity and built their filmmaking skills, by creating, shooting, and editing two original short films. Top Hollywood actors Rachael Leigh Cook and Laura Prepon each starred in a film! The 2007 filmmakers' fate is in your hands as we launch our first online Viewing and Voting competition, starting May 22nd and running through June 7th. So who will it be? STAYFREE® Girls in the Directors Chair 2006 Program STAYFREE® created Girls in the Directors Chair to empower teen girls to express their creativity and individuality through a unique opportunity to earn firsthand experiencing in filmmaking. We launched the program in 2006, giving 10 former Fresh Film participants an opportunity to produce a Public Service Announcement (PSA) aimed at empowering more girls to fulfill their creative potential. We also teamed up with the Women in Film organization to host a luncheon featuring a panel of amazing women in film, which included actress Jessica Alba; Academy Award® winning producer Cathy Schulman; Famed director Penelope Spheeris. Top female directors, such as Elizabeth Allen, director of Aquamarine, as well as Brenda Chapman, the first female director at Pixar, shared their stories. It was an exciting year! Get Involved Did you know that only 5% of the top-grossing films feature a woman director? Or that women hold less than 16% of all creative positions in Hollywood? There's tons of valuable information: teens can watch behind the scenes documentaries, download podcasts of interviews with film industry professionals, read production blogs, and interact inour live forum.
